BumTown, by Tony Fitzpatrick.  Chicago: Tia Chucha Press, 2001.  ISBN: 1-8826888-25-2.  $12.00

Poems and drawings by a Chicago native who recounts adventures in the city as he imagines being driven around by his late father. His open verse, short line poems exhibit his fears, hopes and fantasies as he recalls his adventures. This is his fourth book.

Trade paperback, 7 x 10 inches, 45 pp.  Retail price $16.95.  Our copy is in very good condition, with one crack in the lower spine. # 0903-004

 

New Architecture Bridges 1, ed. by Francisco Cerver.  Printed in Spain, 1992.  ISBN: 4-87246-263-7.  $25.00

Most bridge construction result in functional and aesthetic solutions to problems encountered in bridge building.  Color photos of selected bridges in the United States, Europe and Japan, which illustrate this principle, together with close-up views of essential features. Text in English and Japanese. Architectural renderings supported by several pages of photos of bridge sections.

Hardback in slipcover, 10 x. 13 ½ inches, 255 pp. Both in very good condition; slight tear on upper spine, and minimal rubbing of lower cover  corner.  # 0903-005

 

The Little Less, by Angela Du Maurier. Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Doran and Company, Inc., 1941. First edition. $270.00.

The third novel by the less-famous Du Maurier author sister, this is the story of a motherless young woman who returns from boarding school to an indifferent father. Nonetheless, she matures and marries, but ultimately has to choose between love and duty. Not a cheerful tale, but not as dark as her sister's novels.

Brown cloth, no dust jacket, but a former owner has removed the biographical section from the dust jacket, and this is included. 6 x 8 inches, 314 pp. Spine is slightly sun faded, minor shelf wear, and a few dings on cover edges. Book is intact and solid.  #0704-090

 

Samurai Armies 1515-1615, by S.R. Turnbull. London: Osprey Publishing Ltd., n.d.  Initially published 1979, with various reprint dates through 1989. Book 86 of the Men at Arms series.   ISBN: 0-85054-302-X.  $6.00.  

During the Momoyama Period, when Japan consisted of numerous kingdoms, there was nearly constant warfare between kingdoms. This book describes and illustrates battle formations, sieges, dress, and equipment. A portion includes color plates of various forms of battle dress and how to put them on.

Paperback, 7 ¼ x 9 ¾ inches, 40 pp. Very good condition; no marks, back cover has crease in lower corner.   # 0903-033

 

Quartered In Hell:  The Story of American North Russian Expeditionary Force 1918-1919, by Dennis Gordon.  Missoula, MT: The Doughboy Historical Society, 1982, printed in Canada.  ISBN: 0-942258-00-2.  Signed by Hayes Otoupalik, Chief of Research.  $200.00

An account of the little-remembered American military expedition known as ANREF or the Polar Bear Expedition, as reported by the Polar  Bears themselves. Their accounts tell the stories of allied soldiers, some of whom were the sons of Russian immigrants, assembled against communist brigades in far reaches of Russia and Siberia.  Most of the book consists of new material submitted by veterans, with black and white photos from the campaign. The final pages list those who died and those who demonstrated extraordinary heroism.

Oversize paperback, 8 ½ x 11 inches, 320 pp.  Very good condition, with slight crease at top right of cover.  #0903-034
