Whew! The busy holiday season has finally come to an end. You have written cards, baked treats, shopped for gifts, and overindulged at too many parties. Now, it’s time to welcome in the New Year and get your life in order. As you are putting away your gifts, you realize that you have no idea how to use the e-reader that your grandson insisted that you could not live without.
Not wanting to disappoint Junior, you remove the e-reader from the box and manage to locate the power switch. You turn on the device and patiently wait for your e-book to appear on the screen. Much to your dismay, nothing happens. You don’t want to admit to your grandson that you are not ready for digital books and have no idea how to download them. What should you do?
Let Sedona Public Library in the Village (SPL-V) come to your rescue. If you received an e-reader as a holiday gift and need help downloading free e-books from Sedona Public Library (SPL), stop by the Library in the Village on Friday, January 17, between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to attend a free help session. Library volunteers will be on hand to provide assistance. You must be familiar with the basic operation of your e-reader. Please understand that library volunteers can help you learn how to download e-books from Sedona Public Library, but they aren’t trained to help you with other applications that may be available on your device.
While reservations are not required, your help session may be limited to accommodate everyone. Also, handouts with directions will be provided. To download e-books from the Library, you will need your Yavapai Library Network library card and your PIN number. Depending on the type of device that you own, you may also need your e-mail address, your Amazon.com password, or your Apple ID. Please bring your e-reader device along with cables and charger.
If you cannot attend the help session on January 17, you have a few other options. You may access the SPL website at sedonalibrary.org to watch a video or to read step-by-step instructions. You may also schedule an appointment with library staff. To make an appointment at SPL-V, contact Cheryl at 928.284.1603. To schedule your appointment at the main Library in West Sedona, call 928.282.7714 and when prompted, select the Reference Desk.
You too can learn to master your e-reader. Most people who own e-readers move beyond the point of frustration and learn to love their e-readers for the following reasons: speedy access to books and portability when traveling or commuting. Just ask Marvin Hinton, a resident of Sedona Winds. After attending an e-reader workshop at SPL-V, Marvin learned how to download books to his e-reader. He enjoys reading his Kindle every day. By the way, Marvin is 97 years young and an avid reader. Library Events in the Village:

Some of Bev’s paintings will be for sale. All proceeds benefit SPL-V.
