Veteran's History Project

The Veteran's History Project honors our nation’s veterans, and those who supported them, by collecting and preserving their stories of service. This project, created by Congress, is building a lasting legacy. The Veterans History Project covers World Wars I & II, Korea, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf wars. It encompasses all participants of these wars, including civilian volunteers, support staff, war industry workers, and military personnel from all ranks and branches of the service.

All those working with the Veteran's History Project are anxious to have our veterans in the Verde Valley participate in these interviews. Your stories are an important part of our community and national history. The interview, which can last up to 1 ½ hours, takes place at the Sedona Public Library in the private Quiet Study room with a camera person, a trained interviewer, and the interviewee present. It is possible to make special arrangements for an in-home interview if you are unable to leave your home for medical reasons. A DVD of the interview is sent to the American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress for archiving and public availability. In addition, the VHP website (www.loc.gov/vets) contains information from the material received by the Library of Congress.

We can always use more volunteers to work on all aspects of the project.

Please contact Jolene Pierson at 928.282.7999 directly or the library at 928.282.7714 to be part of this exciting project.
