It’s been a few months since you made your New Year’s resolutions. Every year people make resolutions to lose weight, exercise more, and take better care of themselves. If you made these resolutions and your resolve is going by the wayside, the Library has resources to support your efforts.
Your library card will give you access to thousands of titles about health, diet, fitness, and nutrition. Don’t forget about magazines. Using the Zinio database, you can download full digital copies of your favorite magazines to your computer or mobile device. Call the Library to schedule an appointment if you need assistance with Zinio.
Perhaps you exercise but would like to vary your exercise routine. The Library offers many fitness DVDs, including Zumba, yoga, belly dancing, Pilates, hip hop, and boxing, as well as total fitness. The Library even has a DVD to exercise your brain called “The Brain Fitness Program.”
Go outside to exercise and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Red Rock Country. The Library has books about hiking, mountain biking, and backpacking, including guidebooks with detailed information about trails in Sedona and the Verde Valley.
Are you looking for health information online? Bridget Rowan, reference librarian at Sedona Public Library, highly recommendswww.medlineplus.gov. Bridget says, “This website has peer-reviewed, easy-to-understand articles, as well as great information about when to see a doctor based on symptoms. There is no sponsored content on their site, so users don't have to worry about whether or not the information they're looking at is good or not. They also have most of their content available in Spanish.”
Take advantage of a free health screening being offered at Sedona Public Library, 3250 White Bear Road, on Wednesday, March 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Si Birch Community Room. Provided and funded by Northern Arizona Healthcare, the screening is designed to assess the risk of diabetes and heart disease by measuring cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and blood glucose. Fasting is not required, and no appointment is necessary.
Thanks to everyone who attended our Love Your Library Open House event on Wednesday, February 17. We had a great crowd, lively conversations, and delicious refreshments. We appreciate your support.
