Sedona Public Library Stories
"Little Sister" Thriving at LibraryAriana, a Sedona second grader, loves visiting the Library with her Big Sister, Kenyon Taylor. Making Lifelong Dreams Come TrueMaria Teresa Haro’s dream has always been to learn English, so she began attending the Library’s English as a Second Language class. Over time, she progressed from understanding and speaking no English to using English in her daily life. Maria can now understand when she is spoken to in English, can read street signs, and can ask questions when she’s out shopping. Encouraged by her success, she’s determined to become even more proficient.
Maria has spread the word among her family and friends about her experiences at the Library. Her sister has joined the ESL class and both children participate in youth services programs. Maria is grateful to the Library for positively impacting her life in so many ways, and she has advice for anyone who might be reluctant to come: “I never imagined all of the services that are offered here at Sedona Public Library and all the friends that you can make here as well. Don’t think twice about going to the Library—you won’t regret it!” |
Tutoring Helping Reluctant Readers SucceedFirst-grader Deven was struggling with his reading. He was so overwhelmed and frustrated that he didn't even want to attempt to read. When Deven entered the Library’s Book Bytes tutoring program, his tutors guided him in a way that used his creativity and abstract thinking. Deven grew more confident and more trusting in his ability to sound words out, and by the end of the program, not only had Deven learned to read, he was eager to tackle any reading challenge his tutors gave him. He started afraid to try, and he finished with an inner confidence and honed ability to read that made for a truly incredible transformation.
